Universal solution: from a single machine to a complete line with Omron NX502 controllers

20 January 2025

Omron introduces the innovative NX502 industrial automation controller – part of the proven NX product series, with which manufacturers can easily implement control from a single machine to an entire line.

Combined with the NX-EIP201 EtherNet/IP module, the controller combines advanced control, information security and application safety capabilities, allowing for significant acceleration of processes from commissioning to maintenance of machines and systems, setting new standards for speed and dynamics in production.

The Japanese manufacturer’s industrial automation controllers are developed with a focus on ensuring a high industrial level of safety, precise motion control and optimal transparency in control, using a unified architecture of the “one controller – one connection – one software” type through the One Controller, One Connection and One Software platforms of the Sysmac platform.

New limits in productivity

The NX502 is designed to ensure maximum machine productivity through a stable and resilient architecture, while ensuring the collection of more data. Omron’s latest generation controller significantly reduces the time required to implement IIoT platforms thanks to its ability to capture and process data from devices from different manufacturers via local communication networks.

Using popular open protocols such as IO Link, EtherCAT and EtherNET/IP, the NX502 effectively “collects” multiple digital devices into a single controller. This reduces installation costs and reduces the data refresh delays that occur with controlled switches for motion control applications. Based on the deterministic and globally recognized open source EtherCAT protocol, the NX502 offers reliable motion control for systems with up to 64 axes.

With the Sysmac Studio integrated development environment and Omron Integrated Safety Kits, programming time is significantly reduced, and up to 254 CIP Safety connections can be implemented with the NX502. The innovative controller consolidates data efficiency with MQTT, OPC UA and SQL, and among its standard features is the ability to reliably transfer information to a central location on a web server without additional licenses or computer systems to mediate data transfer.
