Omron introduces next-generation barcode reader with AI and built-in code quality monitoring features
10 August 2025
Omron launches the innovative VHV5-F barcode reader. The new generation system provides high efficiency in reading any symbology – regardless of the application, operator training or type of production line, and among its most significant advantages are built-in functions for monitoring code quality.

Fast and intelligent image processing
The high-performance VHV5-F reader combines advanced image processing and intelligent decoding capabilities with ultra-fast data processing, Omron says. The solution includes a multi-core processor, NPU (Neural Processing Unit) module and accelerated analysis through artificial intelligence, high-speed sensors and the latest generation decoding algorithm X-Mode 6.0.
With this configuration, the system is able to achieve 99.99% success rate in reading a variety of barcodes immediately after commissioning, Gemamex adds. The intelligent reader can scan up to 4,000 objects per minute, as well as verify up to 1,200 components or products in the same time.
The continuous data collection process and parallel processing in the VHV5-F guarantee successful decoding in real time even of the traditionally most difficult to read symbologies, such as direct markings (DPM), the manufacturer emphasizes

Wide applicability in industry
The system is designed for applications in a wide range of industries, including food and beverage bottling, pharmaceuticals, automotive, logistics, electronics, high-speed printing, etc. Autofocusing over a wide range of working distances to the barcode, reaching 2 m, ensures trouble-free reading even on high-speed conveyors, robotic assembly lines and wide-area scanning in warehouse operations, adds Gemamex.
“The reader is available in versions with a 2.3- and 5-megapixel sensor and with a choice of four lenses with high-speed autofocus. The optical system of the device includes ultra-bright stroboscopic illumination with optional diffusers and polarizers, which provides high-contrast images even in poor visibility conditions,” Omron informs.
Among the advantages of the solution is the “Smart Assist Mode” easy-to-setup mode, which automatically applies the most appropriate operating parameters and image enhancement filters to increase readability. The “Learn All Codes” function allows for recognition and decoding of different types of barcodes without the need for manual operator intervention. For lines producing specific types of components or products, the “Optimize Mode” is particularly useful, as it improves decoding consistency and efficiency.
Ready for any task and condition
The VHV5-F features a robust and highly resistant to dust, moisture and aggressive industrial conditions housing with the highest degree of protection IP69K. The device supports Power-Over-Ethernet (PoE) and standard 24 VDC power supply, and flexible mounting options make installation easy. The reader’s connectivity options are also wide – via EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, TCP/IP, RS-232 and IEEE1588 PTP it can be seamlessly integrated into both modern and older automated systems and lines.
In addition to reading, the VHV5-F also offers reliable barcode verification according to the ISO 15416, 15415 and 29158 standards. Thus, the solution optimizes traceability and helps companies achieve compliance with applicable regulations by detecting and resolving various barcode quality issues before they have a noticeable impact on production, Omron also reports.
