OMRON M1-EMP opens up new possibilities in AC drives with multi-protocol Ethernet support
02 March 2026

Omron is expanding its iconic family of compact AC drives with the new M1-EMP (Ethernet Multi Protocol) model, which features multi-protocol Ethernet communication options.
“AC drives are today fundamental components of industrial automation solutions that control the speed, torque and position of electric motors in machines and production systems. They help companies increase their energy efficiency, achieve precise motion control and seamlessly adapt their equipment to ever-changing process requirements,” the Japanese company emphasizes.
The familiar compact body, but with more capabilities
The new M1-EMP inverter provides built-in connectivity to EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and Modbus TCP networks – without the need for additional hardware boards, which reduces both cost and installation effort. In a housing with the same compact format as the popular M1-ECT EtherCAT model, the new frequency converter supports 10/100 Mbps communication in both “half duplex” and “full duplex” connections.
The innovative AC drive allows cyclic messaging, which can be implemented in pre-configured or freely mapped modes, as well as acyclic data transmission for full parameter access. An external backup power supply (24 V DC) further improves reliability by keeping communication active, even in the event of a main power failure.

The perfect set of benefits
The M1 series now offers an even more comprehensive range of options, providing flexible motion control for asynchronous motors, permanent magnet motors and direct drives. At the same time, the integrated position control via a gear mechanism makes the range suitable for an extremely wide range of practical scenarios.
A clear advantage is the energy-saving prospects that reduce operating costs, as well as the built-in safety functions (such as Safe Stop 0/STO SIL3 PLe) that ensure compliance with the strict applicable regulations. For users working with EtherCAT, the drive series also includes a model with the FSoE STO (Functional Safety over EtherCAT, Safe Torque Off) function.
Among the many advantages of the range is the simplified configuration and monitoring thanks to the seamless integration with the company’s Sysmac Studio software and the Omron mobile drive application – Drive App. This allows setup, parameterization and diagnostics to be carried out quickly and consistently.
M1 – drives for every industry
The M1 drive family covers models ranging from 0.2 to 30 kW, in single- and three-phase versions. It is the preferred choice in a number of sectors, including food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, material handling, energy, water treatment, environmental protection and more.
With the launch of the M1-EMP, Omron further expands the applicability of the product line by providing multi-protocol support as a standard feature, ensuring easier implementation in modern manufacturing and industrial environments.
